It is with great sadness that Matzav.com reports the passing of Rav Eliyahu Abba Shaul zt”l.
Rav Eliyahu’s health deteriorated suddenly after he collapsed at his home on Rechov Sorotzkin in Yerushalayim.
Rav Eliyahu was born in Yerushalayim on the 24th of Sivan, the only son of HaGaon Chacham Bentzion Abba-Shaul zt”l. His mother was a daughter of Rav Yosef Chaim Sharabani, R”M at Yeshivat Porat Yosef and founder of Yeshivas Hamekubalim Emes Veshalom.
In his you, Rav Eliyahu studied at Yeshiva Kol Torah in Bayit Vegan and at the Ponovezh Yeshiva in Bnei Brak.
He married his wife, Rebbetzin Netzchia, daughter of the late Rav Yehuda Mualem, rosh Yeshivat Porat Yosef.
After his marriage, he served as a R”M at Porat Yosef. Afterwards, he was appointed rov of the Itri neighborhood of Yerushalayim.
He later founded Yeshivat Ohr Letzion, named for his father’s seforim. The yeshiva is located in the Givat Moshe neighborhood.
Rav Eliyahu was know for his vast yedios haTorah and the profound impact that he had on talmidim.
He leaves behind a wonderful family, including his eldest son, Rav Bentzion Abba Shaul, Rav Yehoshua Abba Shaul, and others.
The levayah is being held today at Yeshiva Or Letzion on Rechov Ohalei Yosef in the Givat Moshe neighborhood. Kevurah will take place in the Sanhedria Cemetery.
