It is with great sadness that we report the passing of Rav Nosson Gestetner zt”l, author of Lehoros Nosson, rosh yeshiva of Yeshiva Ponim Me’iros, and rov of Kiryas Agudas Yisroel in Bnei Brak. Rav Gestetner, one of the senior gedolei Torah and poskim of Eretz Yisroel, was born 78 years ago to his parents Rav Amram and Rebbetzin Malka Gestetner. During his decades of harbotzas haTorah, Rav Gestetner authored over sixty seforim and kuntreisim, including the acclaimed Shaalos Uteshuvos Lehoros Nosson. He was a descendant of the Chasam Sofer.
Rav Gestetner fled from kavod his entire life, including turning down an offer to become Gaon Av Bais Din of the Eidah Hachareidis in Yerushalayim.
During the last year, Rav Gestetner became very ill and weak, but insisted on maintaining his regular schedule of learning and guiding people. After Yom Kippur, he was hospitalized. He was niftar last night.
Rav Gestetner leaves behind his sons, Rav Amram, Rav Yehudah, Rav Akiva, Rav Shlomo, Rav Yechiel Michel and Rav Chaim, and three daughters, Rebbetzin Biderman, wife of Rav Chaim Yosef Biderman; Rebbetzin Vider, wife of Rav Yechiel Vider; and Rebbetzin Weiss, wife of Rav Chaim Weiss.
The levaya is being held this afternoon at Rav Gestetner’s bais medrash on Rechov Rav Ashi and then at Yeshiva Ponim Me’iros on Rechov Matisyahu in Bnei Brak. Kevurah will take place at the Vizhnitzer Bais Hachaim in Bnei Brak.
Yehi zichro boruch.
