It is with great sadness that Matzav.com reports the passing of Rav Shimon Zeffren zt”l, rosh yeshiva of Yeshiva Gedolah Merkaz HaTorah of Montreal, over Shabbos.
The levayah will take place at Yeshiva Gedolah Merkaz HaTorah of Montreal at 12:00 p.m. on Sunday.
The levayah will continue in Lakewood on Monday morning/afternoon, followed by kevurah in Lakewood.

What a shock.BDE. We grew up together in St. Louis. He was a sweet warm friendly person with golden midos. He was a phenomenal baalmasbeer second to nun. He could explain the most difficult sugyos and make them crystal clear. He was a godol beTorah and yet he was meurev im habrios and he was mechabed es habrios. He was a phenomenal Onov. Maybe by the hespaidim some of his gadlus will come out a little. On the day that Klal Yisroel finished Shas. A human shas finished his tafkid on this world. What a loss for Klal Yisroel and for Montreal befrat. May Hakb”h be menachem his chosheveh mishpochch.
He put his heart and soul into every one of his Talmidim. He was very soft-spoken. He will be missed. יהי זכרו ברוך.

I learned in Montreal for Highschool back in the 80’s. I remember Rabbi Zeffren Zt”l as being a nice soft spoken quiet aideleh mensch. I never felt scared or intimidated to say Shalom Aleichem to him or ask him a question. He was a very nice person. His wife is also a very nice person. She was the secratary when I was there. Fond memories of that Yeshiva.
