Ahead of this Sunday’s solidarity rally in New York City against antisemitism and hate, Jewish organizations and leaders have been actively promoting the event on social media.

“We should all be free to practice our religion and traditions fully and without fear,” the Central Conference of American Rabbis (CCAR) declared on Twitter, urging members of the Reform community to attend on Sunday. “When any Jew is targeted we are all targeted.”

Similar messages were shared by the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), the UJA-Federation of New York, the American Jewish Committee (AJC) and a wide range of other community and welfare organizations — among them Project Kesher, which nurtures young Jewish leaders in Israel and the former Soviet Union, and A Wider Bridge, which advocates for Jewish concerns within the LGBTQ community.

A tweet from the UJA-Federation on Friday confirmed that marchers will be joined by representatives of the African-American, Muslim-American, Hispanic-American and Chinese-American communities.

Marchers will gather at Foley Square in Lower Manhattan at 11 a.m. on Jan. 5 and then cross the Brooklyn Bridge to a rally at Cadman Plaza.

“The 1.5 million Jews of our great city and region will not stand down,” the rally’s website declared. “We will not be intimidated.”

  1. think before joining a march sponsored by such luminaries as YAFFED and other organizations that ostensibly “help” the community but actually promote hatred and weaken Torah which is the true cause of Anti-Semitism. this is just virtue signalling by those who actually despise Frum Jews, but need to assuage their guilty conscience in light of recent events

  2. Has the Moetzs Gedoloei Torah issued a statement?

Have there been any announcements regarding Tehilim gatherings?

  3. All these groups sponsoring this rally are anti Torah. First and foremost is the ADL. The
Anti defamation league. The current had used to work for Obama and now issues anti Trump statements at his press conferences. No orthodox organization is even signed on. I wonder if these self appointed machers will be there. This rally will only increase attacks against Frum Jews. By waking up every bum on the street. These are the same groups funding all types of groups seeking to destroy Orthodox Judaism. They fund FOOTSTEPS an organization dedicated to ripping away chassidish youngsters from being Frum. They lure kids with non kosher meals at their headquarters giving them apkorses ideas to doubt yiddiskeit. I’m sure at today’s rally they will blame all the attacks on president Trump. But not on the democrats releasing the violent criminals from prison. We should get Chevra to counter them with Trump signs.

  4. I’m sure most people attending this march are well-meaning people. Even so, I’m not attending because of many of the organizations sponsoring it (like Yaffed, J Street, LGBT groups, etc.)

If there were specific steps or solutions that they were calling for I might attend anyway but as is the march seems like it will accomplish little other than gaining credentials and publicity for politicians and groups who are very hostile to the frum community. These organizations and politicians among their many, many, many other issues never fight anti Semitism directed at frum people without a lot of cameras and publicity around. And they never really fight it either. They just “condemn” it.

As above I don’t question the personal motives of those who are marching and appreciate their showoff solidarity. Even so under the circumstances, I cannot join them.

    • Well put. I honestly appreciate the participants for showing support to our community at a time we are under attack, but the fact that the Jewish groups that are participating are opposed to frum values prevents me from participating.

  5. We have some frum and Hasidic politicos promoting it with their Twitter accounts. But how many Haredim actually attended? Relatively few, from what I have seen.

On the other hand, a few days ago, there was a massive gathering for kavod haTorah, attended in massive numbers by unzerere, after being endorsed by gedolei Yisroel.

Conclusion: Our community follows גדולי ישראל.
