It is with great sadness that Matzav.com reports the passing of Rebbetzin Chava Hecht a”h. She was 95.

Rebbetzin Hecht, nee Lasker, was the longtime director of Camp Emunah in the Catskills.

She was the wife of Rabbi Yaakov Yehuda (JJ) Hecht.

During her career in chinuch, teaching at Bais Rivka, and camping, she touched the lives of thousands of youngsters.

She is survived by her children, Rabbi Sholem Ber Hecht of Queens; Bassie Raskin of Crown Heights; Rabbi Yossie Hecht of South Africa; Fraide Sabol of Crown Heights; Rabbi Shea Hecht of Crown Heights; Dovid Sabol of Crown Heights; Rivky Abramowitz of Crown Heights; Chana Rochel Duchman of Los Angeles; Levi Hecht of Crown Heights; Rabbi Shimon Hecht of Park Slope; and Binie Tenenbaum of Irvine,CA; and many grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her son, Gershon Sabol. She is also survived by her sister, Mrs. Tziporah Goldberg of Boro Park.

The levayah was held this past week. Kevurah took place at Old Montefiore Cemetery in Queens.

The family is sitting shivah at 1342 Carroll Street in Brooklyn.

  1. Her husband Jacob J. Hecht (1924 – 1990), known occasionally as Rabbi JJ, was the assistant and translator of Rabbi Menachem Mendel Shneerson (the Lubavitcher Rebbe), and a leading Chabad rabbi, educator, writer and radio commentator.
