In his response to the Shidduch Forum column in this week’s Yated Ne’eman newspaper, Rabbi Chaim D. Birnhack, a local mechanech in Lakewood, NJ and a matrie d in a Lakewood wedding hall, mentions that Lakewood is now home to 8 wedding halls:

1) Ateres Chana at Bais Faiga

2) Cedar Palace

3) Lake Terrace

4) Fountain Ballroom

5) Kesser Moshe Yehuda

6) Ateres Reva

7) N’eemas Hachaim

8) Eagle Ridge

The comment was made in response to a question from a parent whose daughter is engaged. In trying to schedule the wedding, it was very difficult getting a hall and they were left with two options. Either they could have a very short engagement, of about 4 to 5 weeks, or they could have a very long engagement of over 4 months. They parents asked which is preferable, a very short engagement or a long one.

All of the aforementioned halls, said Rabbi Birnhack, usually aren’t booked 100% of the nights. “If you call them, you’ll see that, most likely, they’ll have a night available in your 3-month period,” he said.

Regarding wedding halls, Rabbi Birnhack informed the readers that “within 2 years, we will be’eizer Hashem have 5 new wedding halls here in Lakewood: 3 new halls on Oak Street, 1 hall on Lanes Mill Road, and 1 hall on Lewin Avenue off of Prospect Street. That would be a total of 13 chasunah halls. If we have 13 chasunos per night, that would be 65 per week, close to 300 per month, and over 2,500 per year!”

  1. Iyh there should enogh shidduchim to fill up all the halls.

Also just to be clear, if you count sefira and the 3 weeks, the number comes down

  2. We need a free shuttle bus service to go along with this. Coming home to Brooklyn with UBER is prohibitively expensive and no not every car is empty.

  3. I assume he’s offering to co-sponsor the more expensive halls, why else would he tell someone who was looking for a more affordable option that there are much more expensive halls available? BTW been there, done that, in crunch times there really are not any dates available and many people are forced to wait much longer than normal, so I’m not sure where this information is coming from. Hopefully new halls that are on the affordable side will help alleviate, although KE”H the demand keeps growing each year.
