A gloomy prognosis was predicted in 2021 when the Israeli airline company, Israir, began observing Shabbos under its new owners, businessman Rami Levy and CEO of the Taaman food company, Shalom Chaim.

Instead, its revenues grew by 10% and it rose to fifth place on the list of successful airline companies.

Globes reports that the Israir Group, a company controlled by Rami Levy and holding full ownership of the airline company, recorded revenues of $358 million last year, a 180% increase over the previous year. This was because of peak demand in the last three quarters of the previous year compared to 2021 when the world was in the grip of the Covid pandemic.

The increase translated into a net profit of $20.6 million in 2022, compared to a loss of $34.6 million the previous year.

“My malls are closed on Shabbat,” Rami Levi said. “All renters are committed to this issue. Even when I rent out my properties in the Atarot industrial area to Arab business owners, I sign with them in advance that there is no work on Shabbos.”
