BDE.
That is a dangerous spot because New Utrecht Avenue and 12th Avenue cross over and the traffic lights can be confusing.
I don’t know if it was a factor in the accident, but that entire intersection from 49th street and12th ave thru 12th ave 50th street /NewUtrich ave has to be one of the worst intersections in New York. If you are on 12th ave and 50 and want to make a left onto 50th st or onto New utrich Ave you can find yourself not knowing if you have the green light or red light.
My suggestion to DOT would be to make 12 ave one way between 49th and New Ulrich Ave towards the 40s Cars going towards the 50s should have to make a right turn on 49th
If you look at the dash cam video posted on various websites, you will notice this accident has nothing to do with New Utrecht being a dangerous Intersection. This accident did not occur because the cross over and lights are confusing.
As was noted before, it is really dangerous at 50th street. This happened while crossing in middle of the block between 48 and 49th streets.
It was an accident on the drivers end. It was a matter of the truck not have visibility that a person was crossing right in front of him in middle of the street.
Please people, be careful, go to the end of the block when you need to cross. Never cross between cars and definitely not trucks.
