In the course of clashes in the northern Gaza neighborhood of Shejaiya today, Israeli forces mistakenly identified three Israeli hostages as a threat and fatally shot them, according to IDF Spokesman Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari.

Hagari acknowledged the IDF’s responsibility for the “tragic incident,” emphasizing that the area was rife with encounters with terrorists, including suicide bombers.

The hostages were Yotam Haim, who was abducted by Hamas from Kfar Aza, and Samar Talalka, abducted from Nir Am. The third hostage remains unnamed at the family’s request.

When questioned about the hostages’ escape from Hamas captivity, Hagari suggests that the military believes “the three fled or were abandoned by the terrorists who held them captive.” Following the shooting, suspicions about the victims’ identities led to a prompt transfer of their bodies to Israel for examination, where they were identified.

In his statement, Hagari says that “after the shooting, during a scan and examination, an immediate suspicion arose regarding the identity of the dead, and their bodies were quickly transferred for examination in Israel, where the hostages were identified.”

“This is a sad and painful event for all of us, and the IDF bears responsibility for everything that happened,” he says.

Hagari says the IDF immediately began to investigate the incident. “This is a tragic event, which took place in a battle zone where the troops encountered many terrorists in recent days, and today, and fought hard battles,” he says.

  1. These “mistakes” are sadly happening almost daily. The question is WHO IS BEHIND IT? Why is Israel’s PM an Arab maybe even a Hamas member?
