Yaakov and Shmuel Weingarten, leaders of the Lev Tahor radical extremist sect who were arrested in the middle of Pesach last year on suspicion of abducting and abusing children, have been extradited from Guatemala to the United States for prosecution.

Yaakov and Shmuel are facing 30-year prison sentences in the United States for serious criminal offenses.

The move is a follow-up to a U.S. court ruling that sentenced Lev Tahor leaders Nachman Helbrans and Meir Rosner, who were accused of abusing and abducting children.

Rosner and Helbrans were convicted in 2019 of abducting a brother and sister who left Lev Tahor from Brooklyn to Mexico. Helbrans was apprehended by Mexican authorities in conjunction with the FBI immediately after landing with the children in Mexico. Both Rosner and Helbrans are serving long prison sentences.

  1. This is all worthless if it doesn’t bring an end to this sickness. What is it going to take for the rest of the group to be broken up and mainstreamed?
