Vice President Mike Pence says he fully expects billionaire GOP donor Betsy DeVos will be confirmed as education secretary with his tie-breaking vote in the Senate, the AP reports.
Democrats have made her their biggest target of Trump’s Cabinet nominees, since DeVos supports helping private schools. Last week, two Republican senators said they would also vote against, setting up a 50-50 tie if no other Republicans dissent. That makes for a relatively rare occurrence of the vice president using his constitutional duty as Senate President to be the tie-breaker.
If confirmed, DeVos is set to be the most private school friendly federal education chief in history.
