[Video and photos below.] Lakewood, NJ – Yesterday, Mekimi of Lakewood held its annual barbecue in the backyard of Reb Shlomie Gornish, one of the event sponsors along with Reb Avrohom Moshe Muller of Kosher West.
Hundreds of patients and Mekimi volunteers attended the massive barbecue, enjoying rides, food, great entertainment, and free toys.
Dozens of volunteers flipped burgers, hot dogs and chicken for the large crowd.
Families were seated in a large seating area to watch the Evenal Orchestra, the Pester Rebbe, Reb Yoel Lebovits, as well as singers Beri Weber, Benny Friedman and Yosef Chaim Bloch. A fantastic magician, R. J. Lewis, performed to the delight of the many children – and the adults too.
Mekimi was founded in 2003. Today, Mekimi is headquartered in Brooklyn, NY, with over a dozen national and international chapters.
Mekimi of Lakewood is a unique chessed organization that specializes in cheering up bedridden cholim through music, song and customized entertainment. Additional features available include magicians, storytellers, dancers, puppet shows and a kosher DVD library. Mekimi has almost 100 volunteers, with separate men and women divisions catering to patients of all ages.
