Tzachi Hanegbi, the head of the National Security Council, discussed a military operation in Rafah, emphasizing that the decision to act has been finalized, with the timing being the only variable.

In an interview with Israel’s “Meet the Press,” Hanegbi remarked, “Sinwar is living on borrowed time.”

“He shifted from one hiding place to another, and we were in close pursuit. Some might even say we were on the verge of apprehending him, perhaps within a matter of days.”

Drawing parallels between Sinwar and Osama bin Laden, the former leader of Al Qaeda who was killed by US forces in 2011, Hanegbi asserted that Sinwar’s fate is sealed, albeit patience is required.

“When we speak of being ‘a step away from complete victory,’ we must grasp its significance,” Hanegbi stated. “We have three ambitious objectives, and we are committed to their achievement. Firstly, to facilitate the safe return of the hostages. While a significant portion have been liberated, our efforts persist to secure the remaining individuals, hoping that diplomatic efforts will spare their lives. Secondly, to dismantle Hamas’ governance and military infrastructure. Lastly, and most importantly, to ensure Gaza never poses a threat of such magnitude to Israeli lives again.”

Addressing concerns from right-wing factions within the coalition regarding potential political ramifications of a hostage release deal, Hanegbi urged the public to evaluate actions over rhetoric.

“Did the Prime Minister authorize the negotiation team to pursue the deal, acknowledging its potential political fallout? The answer is affirmative,” Hanegbi affirmed.
