Boris Johnson was turned away from a polling station amid England’s local and mayoral elections on Thursday, having reportedly forgotten to bring along an acceptable form of identification.

Johnson’s gaffe, first reported by Sky News, stems from a 2022 law he himself introduced during his tenure as prime minister.

The network reported that Johnson had tried and failed to cast his ballot in South Oxfordshire, a district roughly 50 miles west of London. A spokesperson for Johnson did not deny that he’d failed to bring photo ID with him, but did clarify that he’d eventually managed to vote.

More than 2,500 council positions across 107 local authorities will be filled in this election, with many Conservatives bracing to lose ground to the Labour Party. Johnson was among those stumping for his team on Thursday, reminding his followers on X that the polls were now open. “Vote Conservative today!” he chirped. Read more at Sky News.
