Local Iranian media reported that Iran has apprehended 14 individuals believed to be part of a “terrorist team” with alleged connections to Israel. These individuals were reportedly plotting to carry out assassinations within the country. Although further details were not provided, a judicial official confirmed the arrests in northwestern Iran.

It is worth noting that Iran has previously made similar announcements regarding the detention of individuals accused of espionage on behalf of foreign nations, including the United States and Israel. However, concrete evidence supporting these claims is often not provided. The Islamic Republic has been engaged in a clandestine conflict with Israel for a considerable period, with Tehran accusing Jerusalem, along with the United States, of orchestrating sabotage attacks and assassinations targeting its nuclear program.

In February, Iran claimed to have apprehended “mercenaries” allegedly responsible for a drone strike on a defense facility in Isfahan the previous month.

According to a report by the news site Axios, Israel’s Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer and National Security Adviser Tzachi Hanegbi are scheduled to visit Washington, DC, this week to hold discussions with senior US officials regarding the Iranian threat. However, specific dates have not been confirmed by an official in the Prime Minister’s Office, and the White House National Security Council spokesperson stated that there was no confirmation of the meeting.

Both Israel Defense Forces Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi and Hanegbi recently emphasized Israel’s capability to target Iran’s nuclear sites. Their statements addressed concerns raised by a report revealing Iran’s construction of a new underground nuclear facility that may be impervious to American bunker-buster bombs.

In light of possible forthcoming developments, Halevi cautioned on Tuesday that there could be circumstances that might necessitate action against Iran.
