The Maccabi Health Insurance Group restricted more of its services on Shabbos, informing its 2.5 million members that from Friday noon until Sunday, it will no longer be possible to renew prescriptions, consult a doctor, or make other requests.
In response to patients who complained that this was religious coercion, Maccabi said that doctors complained they were worn out and deserved a day of rest.
Furthermore, doctors were free to select any day of the week as their rest day, and emergency medical services were still available 24/7.
