Admitting that his new geirus plan was not yet complete enough to publicize, Religious Affairs Minister Matan Kahana said he was working on it “in conjunction with the greatest Religious Zionist rabbis.”

Kahana said that Israel has 500,000 people of zera Yisroel (paternal Jewish ancestry) who must be converted “according to halacha” and that genealogy tables were available to identify them.

He admitted that “fast lane” conversion plans are controversial, saying, “MK Pindrus [of UTJ] already said that anyone whose son marries a girl who converted in the army’s conversion program should sit shivah because she’s a shiksa.”

“I will never transgress halacha. I abide by halacha,” Kahana claimed. “The Sephardic chief rabbi’s refusal to meet with me distressed me deeply. But I have no intention of dismantling the Chief Rabbinate — on the contrary, I want to strengthen it.”

But when Alex Kushnir of Yisroel Beiteinu was asked whether the coalition will legalize civil and non-Orthodox marriages, he responded that he “heard murmurings to that effect from Kahana” who is “not one to simply throw around words.”

  1. Matan Kahana who is as religious as the non-licensed minister of Health wants to convert 1/2 million non-Jews to be as religious as him.

  2. Perfect example how the ones who “think” they are knowledgeable have brought upon Am Yisrael the greatest destruction!

“Kahana said that Israel has 500,000 people of zera Yisroel (paternal Jewish ancestry) who must be converted “according to halacha” and that genealogy tables were available to identify them.”

The עם הארץ will decide for all Klal Yisrael “halacha” and then declare the one who agrees as the “greatest” Zionist Rabbi.

Perhaps he means the greatest “Zionist”, (insert comma i.e. who happens to be a..) Rabbi..
