As first reported on Matzav Status last night, Rav Meir Tzvi Bergman, rosh yeshiva of Yeshivas Rashbi in Bnei Brak, is expected to address the Adirei HaTorah event this Sunday at Wells Fargo Arena in Philadelphia despite recent events.
Yesterday, after the tragic and untimely petirah of Rav Meir Tzvi’s son, Rav Ezriel Bergman zt”l, at the age of 70, rumors and reports spread that Rav Meir Tzvi would not attend the Adirei HaTorah event. These reports are unfounded.
Be’ezras Hashem, despite being in shivah, Rav Meir Tzvi, for this unique maamad of kavod haTorah, is expected to participate.
There is precedent for attendance by a gadol baTorah at such an event even during shivah, as has been seen over the years in special circumstances. Those close to the rosh yeshiva tell Matzav.com that Sunday’s maamad clearly falls under the rubric of an asifa lechvodah shel Torah in which the rosh yeshiva will be’ezras Hashem take part even during his current aveilus.
“We continue to daven that the rosh yeshiva should have physical strength and stamina, in general and especially after the untimely petirah of his beloved and choshuve son,” one of the askanim related.
Yesterday, shortly after Rav Bergman’s arrival in the United States and learning of the petirah, Rav Aryeh Malkiel Kotler, rosh yeshiva of Beth Medrash Govoah, was menachem avel Rav Meir Tzvi.

Kol Hakavod!
I’m just curious which Rav Paskened? Rav Shlomo Miller? Rav Forsheimer?
Maybe he paskened for himself. Why does it matter? Will you attend or stay away based on whose psak?
Was there music and dancing at the precedent?
Yeh. Blue strobe lights and fake smoke.
Interesting to note his initials on his Tallis bag!
What’s so interesting? Those are his initials. Should it have your initials?
