Sen. Fetterman: Campus Protests Work Against Peace In The Middle East

Senator John Fetterman (D-PA) criticized the ongoing demonstrations in support of Palestine on college campuses, asserting that such protests are counterproductive to achieving peace in the Middle East.

During an appearance on CBS’s “Face the Nation,” Fetterman was questioned about his views on the display of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) flag at these rallies, with some suggesting it could be construed as antisemitic.

Fetterman disagreed with that interpretation, stating, “No, I don’t think that… but I will, I will say that these kinds of protests haven’t been helpful. And ironically, they are actually working against peace in [the] Middle East as well.” He pointed out the absence of calls for a ceasefire despite one being proposed, questioning why the focus isn’t on pressuring Hamas to accept it and end the suffering in Gaza.

Highlighting the potential for a swift resolution if Hamas were to release all hostages, Fetterman emphasized, “Can’t forget that the situation right now could end right now if Hamas just surrendered and they just sent all of those hostages home again.” He expressed frustration that the plight of these captives isn’t at the forefront of discussions surrounding the Gaza crisis.

Known for his staunch support of Israel, Fetterman displayed solidarity by showcasing photos of Israeli hostages taken by Hamas in his office early in the conflict, vowing to maintain them until every individual is safely returned.

In response to anti-Israel demonstrators outside his office accusing Israel of genocide, Fetterman defiantly hoisted an Israeli flag from the building’s roof, reaffirming his unwavering stance.

In a recent social media post, the Senator reiterated his commitment to raising awareness about the hostages held by Hamas in Gaza until they are reunited with their families.
