Thousands of roller ball candies are being recalled following a child needing emergency surgery after choking last year.
The United States Consumer Product Safety Commission says about 290,000 Happiness USA Liquid Rolling Candy products were sold at kosher market stores nationwide.
The Commission says the candy’s rolling ball can dislodge into a child’s mouth, posing a choking hazard and risk of death.
The candy comes in blue raspberry, strawberry and green apple flavors, consisting of about one fluid ounce of liquid candy.
“Funtime Roller Ball Candy” is printed on the front of the product with “Happiness USA” branding and warning labels printed on the back.
Consumers should immediately stop using the candy, take it away from children, and contact Twenty Four Six Foods for a full refund by email or calling toll-free at 833-436-1200 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. ET Monday through Thursday.

That there is a danger of a child, Chas V’Shalom, chocking on these candies is certainly an extremely serious acute problem. However, it is most certainly not the only issue with them, for there are other problems with them that, while much more subtle, are equally serious. Just last week right here on Matzav was a writeup titled: “Kellogg’s Shareholder: Company Is ‘Knowingly Harming Our Children’ with Additives, Dyes,” about a lawsuit being brought against the famous company Kellogg’s. The lawsuit is over the many gravely harmful artificial additives that they put in their cereals as colorings & preservatives, which are toxic chemicals that cause, C———–, Diabetes, birth deformities and mental illnesses.
One of the comments there pointed out that, of course, Kellogg’s is not the only brand of cereal with these bad added-in chemicals, and cereals are not the only type of food with additives, for almost all modern day processed foods have large amounts of them.
Candies are clearly much, much worse than cereals & the like and are definitely the epitome of the modern age chemical filled foods. For cereals are comprised mainly of wheat or rice or corn with sugar & the other additives also added in.
Modern candies though — the only “food” that is there is the large amount of sugar, which has been exceedingly processed, and the rest of it are numerous toxic chemicals as artificial colorings & flavorings & emulsifiers & stabilizers & preservatives. They are thus well known as the epitome of “junk food” and are really not any kind of food at all!
The above mentioned comment further pointed out that modern-day food additives are not the only problem with modern-day foods. For besides additives added in the processing of foods, the raw foods themselves, when originally growing out in the fields, are excessively sprayed with numerous strong chemicals called “pesticides.” These are severely deadly poisons that cause many major illnesses, including Yenem Machla, mental disturbances and even Toeiva problems, Rachmana Litzlan. So when later we eat those foods, we ingest not only the grains & vegetable & fruits, but also remains of the many pesticides that had been sprayed on them.
Along with pesticides, in recent decades, a new, far more insidious type of Yenem & other Machlos causing toxicity has been brought into our food. It is “Genetically Modified Organisms,” abbreviated “GMO’s,” which means that the DNA core “essence” of the organism is changed around to, supposedly, make it grow, supposedly, “stronger” and “better.”
First of all, the DNA of EVERY one of Hashem’s creations IS absolutely, the epitome of the phrase “exceedingly complex”; it is INFINITELY more complicated & intricate than even the most complicated intricate advanced high-tech AI computer system that will ever be written in the world. There are whole sections of the DNA strip that today’s scientists have no idea of what the function is. So for these scientists and their cronies in the food & chemical industries to even think that they can monkey around with changing DNA to (supposedly) make it “better,” is absolute absurdity!!
Overall, a GMO’ed – DNA changed organism is, obviously, a new formation and no longer a natural item and is thus something that is not going to be compatible with a person’s natural physiology and can only cause harm.
Obviously though, the fact is that most of our modern day food — with the GMO’s, with the pesticides, with the artificial additives, with the outright junk foods — is, tragically, beset with toxicity that is very much not healthful for us. Furthermore, especially at parties and celebrations and Simchas and Shabbos and Yomim Tovim, especially the Yom Tov of Purim, we allow ourselves and especially our children, to indulge more in the junk foods of candies & cakes & cookies & ice creams.
However, our Chazal and Meforshei HaTorah and Ba’alay Mussar explain that one of the main themes of Shabbos Zachor and Purim is that of our Sacred obligation to eradicate evil. Along with, of course, Haman and Hitler and Stalin and Saddam Hussein and Hamas, the poisoning of our modern day food — which is being done by numerous severely callous corporations with extremely selfish and even outright sinister intent — is certainly also one of the big areas of evil that we are obligated to reject and eradicate.
So, B’Ezras Hashem, this Purim, let us see if we can begin to take a step in that direction. Let us try to sharply cut back on the junk food consumption. And let us at least begin to think about, as much as possible according to what is available to us, to try to purchase only what is certified “Organic” (which means it claims there were no GMO’s or pesticides or artificial additives).
