Uman Uman Rosh Hashanah.

Just not this year.

Ukraine announced today that it will not allow visitors into the country to spend the upcoming Rosh Hashanah in Uman.

Each year, tens of thousands of Jews flood into Uman, home to the kever of Rav Nachman of Breslov.

This year, because of the war with Russia, Ukraine’s ambassador to Israel, Yevgen Korniychuk, said in a statement posted today on the embassy’s Facebook page that no Jews will be allowed in for Rosh Hashanah. “Due to concerns for the lives and well-being of the visitors to Ukraine and in light of the blatant Russian war in our country,”Korniychuk wrote, “despite all efforts, we can not guarantee the security of pilgrims and do not currently allow tourists and visitors to enter Ukraine.”

It’s not clear if this is an official ban on entry into Ukraine, which sees thousands of arrivals coming through its land borders with Poland, Romania, Hungary, Slovakia and Moldova each day.

    • If you haven’t noticed there is a vicious war going on over there.

Zelensky has bigger problems then assuring the safety of thousands of people coming on a pilgrimage.

  1. A friend of mine who is part of Bresliv community told me a secret. Technically, the rebbie only said to come on Rosh Hashanah and then separately said to come to his grave after his passing He never gave the directive to come to his grave on Rosh Hashanah.

  2. אין שום יאוש בעולם כלל ואין לנו על מי לסמוך רק על אבינו שבשמים to loosely translate: there’s no despair and whe’ve come to a situation that all we can rely on is hashem himself!!!
