Earlier during this war with Hamas, a high-ranking IDF officer, wishing to recruit yeshivah bochurim to the IDF, was unsuccessful after visiting several yeshivos and was directed to Rav Dov Landau, rosh yeshiva of Yeshivas Slabodka.
Meeting Rav Landau at his Bnei Brak home, the officer made his argument. Rav Landau, lucid and sharp, responded forcefully during their lengthy conversation, explaining that “the protection and deliverance of Klal Yisrael solely derive from the study of Torah.”
Rav Landau also shared that the situation surrounding the hostages gives him no rest. “Day and night, I am consumed with worry. …They are in the hands of individuals whose cruelty is unmatched.”
