Watch as a teacher in a Charedi Yeshiva in Israel tries to educate these students on Yom Hazikaron about the IDF and the sacrifice they make for everyone in Israel.

The presentation can bring you to tears, regardless of political stances.

  1. Nice propaganda piece.
There was music playing in the background? Interesting that some of the faces were blurred out. In a bais medrash with the instructor’s back to the Aron Kodesh?! Did Meshi-Zahav produce this garbage?

  2. Had the teacher really cared to educate his students about memorial day, he’d have learned with them mishnayos or whatever le’iluy nishmas the Jewish soldiers and said Kaddish with them. To talk about “the sacrifice” soldiers make in a non ethical and non moral environment while going against the Torah, is nothing to be proud of.

      • That’s what happens when you get money from the anti-Torah Zionists. B”H for most chareidi yeshivos and school who do not get money from the Zionists. They can educate the children the Torah way without the government’s instructions and apikorsos. The best part is that the government cannot force those who do not take money to serve in the army.

        • Oh, I see, so you know more than R’Hanheman zt”l. and R’Shach, zt”l., both of whom allowed the flag to be flown over Ponevitch on the Fifth of Iyar.

  3. Beautiful. It’s important that the world at large sees that not all chareidi people are chayos. Just watched a video where a chareidi man says that he is happy that soldiers are killed. Very sad!

  4. Yashar Koach for sharing.

All of Klal Yisroel should appreciate Jews who risk their lives to protect other Jews. (Shame on you “Fake News”. You are a fake Ben Torah)

  5. Very moving.
As is said beShem R Chaim ” vos felt in hasbara felt in havana”
Unless the Fake News and Anon`s can explain why we should not have extreme empathy for that boy they should not belittle the presentation .
If all Fake News and Anon can do is whine they lost the argument
I see no reason that we should not have hakaras hatov and mourn someone or anyone who dies defending another Yid .
I am always at a loss to see how people schooled in midos can be so callous
Midos are measurements just because you feel yenems a tzara does not mean that you need to hold their shita.
It`s the difference between a boor and a talmid chochom

  6. @fake news you are sick when there are shiurim in a bais medrash the rabbi giving it has his back to the aron kodesh the music was probably added after
@anonymous mourning dead Jews is not schmad anyone who thinks so is sick and a slimeball

  7. The difference between Americans and Israelis is, that in America when theirs a disagreement about a point in hashkafa. You have people who either support the idea, or are against the Idea. But it generally doesn’t go beyond that.
In Israel however, theirs a disagreement regarding the gius. Now everything in the world becomes part of the issue. If you hold you should not register in the lishkas hagiyus- than you suddenly become a full blown neturei kartanike, destroying everything in your path. Totally forgetting that a couple of hours ago you were taking money from the medinnah, voting etc.
The same is true the other way around. If you believe you Should register in the lishkas hagius- than all of the sudden. Everything that was hashkafiklly agreed upon in the chareidi tzibur that is treif, suddenly becomes an honor a”shitah”, and a kiddush Hashem etc., like having anything formally to do with yom haatzmaot, MUST go to college, you have to go out of your way to give kavoid to soinei Hashem. Etc.
Sad how one machloikes has to destroy any normallicy amongst the chareidim. Sad.

  8. This Guy seems like a very capable educator. Still people Need to differentiate between remembering, by doing something לע״נ someone who died al kiddush Hashem, and observing an arbitrary SECULAR day called “Tom hazikaron”.

Even if someone wants NO PART in the so called “Tom hazikaron” , it does not mean that they don’t care about those who passed or their families.

  9. I am extremely disturbed that Matzav chose to show this video. It can be guaranteed that 15 years ago or even less than that it would never been allowed to discuss such things in a Talmud Torah or yeshiva ketana, it is this new environment where being close and comfortable with non-religious in Israel is encouraged.

  11. Propaganda galore
Is the little boy on his fathers grave in a yeshiva getting a Torah education or in some public school. We can not support a government that has Toeiva parades in our holy land. A government that advocates the murder of jewish babies through abortions. An army that drafts girls and seeks to midernize Yeshiva boys to leave the Torah way of life

  12. To the majority of commentators I find you to be be quite ignorant. First of all the teacher is not giving a physiology class it would be psychology. Learn the difference you uneducated low-lifes who lack empathy for the poor fatherless child who’s father gave his life to protect those living in the land of Israel. Where many yeshiva hoodlums roam the streets looking for trouble and are not sitting in the Beis Medrash learning what true Yedishkeit is.
Second I commend this teacher for bringing this to the student’s atttention and was pleased to hear that many of the boys were empathetic to the young boy’s laying on his father’s grave. He will never again feel his father’s warm embrace but may now only embrace his cold grave.
Finally, I can only hope Hashem can warm his heart and the hearts of those who so coldly and cruelly criticized this fine Rabbi’s courage.

  13. Hey Shlomo – What is an arbitrary SECULAR day? Don’t know about you, but my shel rosh has a shin on it for the 300 secular days that I wear tefillin. One can take an arbitrary secular day, add some kedushah and make it into a holy day. Would you feel better about this if they observed this on asarah b’Teves? I doubt it. The day we observe for those who gave their lives that that nation might come into being and be a makom Torah where there are probably more full time learners than at any other time in history is a holy day. Yehai zichrom baruch!

    • Yasher Koach. Medinat Yisroel funds hundreds of millions of Shekalim every year to Torah institutions, including Haredi Yeshivas such as the Mir and Ponovitz, and Haredi Bais Yaacovs. And yet there are those in the ultra-Orthodox world of North America who call it [sic] ” . . . an anti-Torah government . . . “.

  14. Our fellow yidden lost their lives. Families lost loved ones: husbands, sons and brothers. Almanos and yesomim are grieving. Future generations of Am Yisrael were lost due to deaths in battle. Families were ripped apart by terror attacks. Why shouldn’t we mourn our loss? Yes, OUR loss.
    Acheinu kol bais Yisrael.
    Hashem yikom damam.

  15. Those who commented might be interested to know that this Yeshiva Ketana was established under the auspices of the Stoliner Rebbe.

Bh for those rabbinom/rebbeim who have the courage & Daas Torah to educate students in “דרכי שלום״.

  16. This video was clearly staged. With all the correct zoomed in lenses on just the right kids just at the right time. The zoomed in shot of a Rebbe standing in the doorway. You think we never saw a production before? We never saw a movie before? Come on. The haunting music added at just the right time. I’m not saying there is anything wrong with mourning the loss of someone who gave his life so others can live in freedom. Kol hakavod. It’s the exact same thing with an American soldier who gives his life so we can live free. %100. My point is, this was not some spontaneous classroom setting which punkt happened to be recorded by some random parent who punkt happened to have a video recorder on him. THIS WAS PROFESSIONALLY STAGED! As always, the motivation has be gelt $$$$$$$$$$$
Btw, I wonder why they didn’t name the school where this production was shot. What’s there to hide?

  17. The polar responses here are disturbing. You all confuse yourselves about things that are not mutually exclusive. When a person does a good thing it is good and they should be credited for it, and if they do it for you, you owe them gratitude. A Jew who physically protects other Jews is doing a Mitzvah with that action. Does that excuse any of the other sins and evils of Tziyonus and the State and the Army? OF COURSE NOT but that makes no difference to the matter at hand.

  18. The message was simple: Let’s have some appreciation towards those who risk and sometimes sacrifice their lives to keep their fellow Jews safe. Let’s understand the devastation a young fatherless child feels at the loss of his parent.

No propagandizing for the state. No hashkafic lessons. No opinions about chareidim, dati/leumi, or chilonim.

As someone with several family members who served in the IDF, serve in the IDF and iy”H will serve in the IDF, I appreciate the message being sent by the rebbi in the video. Roi Klein z”l was a hero by any definition of the word. May G-d watch over and protect those who serve and protect their fellow Jews. And to those who object to this simple message, I don’t get it and I hope I never will.

  19. I completely agree with you that this is all staged. It’s obvious. What i don’t understand is why, if for money then give a name? Maybe just a general pr stunt for those familiar with the school or looking for some general good will toward charedim.

  20. “A student in the Kol Torah Yeshiva in Jerusalem, approached his Rosh Yeshiva, Rav Shlomo Zalman Auerbach zt”l and asked him the question: May I leave my Torah studies in the yeshiva to go [for a short visit] and pray at the graves of tzadikim (righteous people,) in the Galil (Northern Israel?)

Rav Auerbach answered, “It is better to say in yeshiva, and study Torah”

The student replied, “Isn’t there a time I could go to visit the graves of tzadikim? Doesn’t Rav Auerbach go and pray by the graves of tzadikim?

Rav Auerbach answered, “In order to pray at the graves of tzadikim, one doesn’t have to travel up to the Galil. Whenever I feel the need to pray at the graves of tzadikim, I go to Mount Herzl, [the national cemetery for fallen IDF soliders in Jerusalem], to the graves of the soliders…who fell “Al Kiddush Hashem” for the sanctification of G-d.”

    • Rav Auerbach’s son said this story isn’t true however he said the message that here are many holy neshamot in the soldiers cemetery is indeed true

      • how would Rav Aurbachs son know? children dont know everything their parents do. did he specifically ask him this question?

  21. “At the “Sixth Kenessia Gedolah” held in Yerushalayim in 1980, a “Kail Malei Rachamim” was made for the memory of the previous Admorim, Rabonim and Roshei Yeshiva of the Moetzes Gedolei Hatorah as well as the IDF Soldiers that died Al Kiddush Hashem.

Gedolim who were standing during this Kail Malei Rachamim include, Rav Shach, Rav Moshe Feinstein, Rav Shlomo Zalman Auerbach, Rav Yaakov Kamenetsky, Rav Ruderman, the Gerrer Rebbe, the Vishnitzer Rebbe, the Slominer Rebbe, the Modizter Rebbe, and the Biala Rebbe.”

    youtube.com/watch?v=ckSbdC8QluU

    • Rav Shach, zt”l. allowed the flag of Israel to be flown over the Ponevitch Yeshiva every Fifth of Iyar to show hakoras hatov. This is an undisputable fact.

  22. Rabbi Eliyahu Dessler
“It is hard to label our presence in the Holy Land now as the beginning of the redemption. It is, however, a great kindness on G-ds part. After the extreme destruction of six million of our brothers, we have the opposite extreme of our nation settling in its own state in the Holy Land. We must learn and take faith from this. Woe to him who will reach the Judgment Day still oblivious to this obvious reality!”

  23. R. Yosef Eliyahu Henkin
“I was shocked to read in Chomoteinu of Cheshvan 5719 the slanderous notion that we are required to give our lives (limsor nefesh) to frustrate and resist the efforts of the State of Israel in its struggle against those who would rise up against them. This was stated as a p’sak din based on what we learn that Israel is restricted from rebelling against the nations (Ketubot 111a)…

Now all the rabbis who were opposed to Zionism and the establishment of a state took up that position until the time that it was officially founded. Once the state was declared, anyone who plays into the hands of the nations of the world even where there is no imminent danger, is clearly a moseir and rodeif. All the more when there is danger to destruction of life in so doing… Surely, those who recently emigrated must be very weary of the state’s efforts to strip them of their Torah way of life, but to proclaim that anyone who aids the state is a rodeif, well such talk is the severest form of redifa.”

  24. Rabbi Eliezer Silver”
“Another time [R. Eliezer] Silver was in a quandary within himself and with his associates [was] regarding a Bonds for Israel dinner in his city. Every year Silver publicly supported this event and attended the dinner. In 1964 the guest of honor was to be Nelson Glueck, the president of the Hebrew Union College. Many Orthodox Jews felt that Silver should not be present at an affair honoring such a prominent Reform Jewish personality. Nevertheless, Silver did attend, since his concern for the cause and feeling of communal responsibilities won out. At the affair, when questioned about his presence, Silver declared, “How could I stay away from a dinner aiding the State of Israel?…”

Silver also exerted his influence in the determination of Agudat Israel and Agudat Harabanim policy towards the formation of the Jewish State. Silver himself had always been in favor of such a state, despite his Agudat Israel ties. Following the Balfour Declaration in 1917, Silver marched in a New York Zionist parade in its support. When Chief Rabbi Abraham Kook visited the United States in 1924, the Agudat Harabanim invited him to adress its convention…

Silver’s letter [in opposition to Satmar anti-Zionist activities] did not abate the course of action of the Satmar element. It did, however, strengthen the more moderate forces in American Orthodoxy. His viewpoint was widely cited in Mizrachi circles. Silver later participated in a Mizrachi conference. Afterwards, at an Agudah conclave, there were those who desired to disbar Silver. It was reported that Rabbi Kotler opposed this request…”

  25. Sadly the discussion above is the reason we are still in galut. When will this sinat hinam ever end so Mashiah can come already ???
To all the haters who bashed this educator I wish you would think for just one instant what if this was not a Jew and not about Yom haatzmaout? What if this was in America on veterans day or something of the sort? Suddenly it wouldn’t bother you so much would it…
I am chareidi living in a very religious community in Israel and I am proud to say that although we don’t keep yom hazikaron per say my son did say tehilim in cheder for the fallen soldiers.
Why so much hate? Who cares if it was staged or not? This rabbi still thought his students to have hakarat hatov and to have ahavat yisrael; 2 very important Thora principles! Halevay we should all look at each other this way instead of hating and having to be reminded by the goyim such as the Nazis yimach shemam that we are one big family religious, secular, traditional, hassid, litvish, etc.
As I told my son we are both soldiers in one army protecting each other. We protect am Yisrael by learning Thora and doing mitzvot and they protect us by fighting for us. Of course I explained that our role is much more important but they still gave their lives for all of us.
I’m just curious where do you get the daat thora from to say otherwise and hate and criticize? Isn’t sefirat haomer a good reminder of veahavta lereacha kamoha ze klal gadol bathora ?!?
    I think this sais enough

  26. Rabbi Yakov Kamenetsky

“It is incumbent on us to understand that the establishment of the state of Israel in our day, after the the great destruction and despair that overtook the remnant, and given the desperate and destroyed status of Russian Jewry, God caused the establishment of the state of Israel in order to strengthen the connection to Judaism and to sustain the link between the Jews in exile and the Jewish nation.”

  27. Dear “nuuu vos iz duus” you are falling into the trap that the Tzionim set, and I tried to make this point earlier- you seem to have missed it. They conflate 2 DIFFERENT things and make them SEEM the same but they are not. All your examples are of Gedolim respecting people killed al kiddush Hashem , appreciating what we have in control/access of the land today etc, NONE of them show any sort of approval to the secular anti-Torah founders or leaders or any of their institutions- 2 seperate things!!!! What in the world does standing for KEl malei Rachamim have to do with observing “Yom Hazikaron”????You can support one and OPPOSE the other!!

Additionally, most of these examples are taken out of context. As someone mentioned that Rav Shlomo Zalman’s son said the story is not true even though the underlying principle is

  28. Rabbi Yisrael Gustman
who, upon seeing the graves in the military cemetery on Mount Herzl, declared, “Kulam kedoshim”, “They are all holy martyrs.”

  29. This presentation brought me to tears.
How stupid social media clips and videos have overtaken our lives and breached the mesorah we received from our rebbeim.
Matzav has joined the left. Getting caught up in holy wood productions introducing foreign concepts to the Torah world.

        • you are telling me the polemics dont show that commenters age? he sounds like someone in the 16 to 20 year old age range.
tell me does a child have the same outlook on life as a teenager? so does a teenager have the same outlook as a 30 year old? does a 30 year old have the same outlook as a 60 year old?

    • seriously?? you make such a comment while getting your news on the internet? are you joking? probably from your smartphone. with unfiltered internet. but this is where you decide to put your fence.
see how this game can be played

      • Your statement is when you have nothing else to respond you resort to the “why are you on the internet” excuse. Its non of your business if its filtered or not please respond as a mature adult.

        • Its non [sic] of your business if its filtered or not
I.e. I can be a hypocritical menuval, but that’s none of your business. OTOH, my condemnations of others are above reproach. Kind of like yelling at passerby for being late to minyan while driving to a ball game on Shabbos.

        • no it’s a very legitimate example in this context.
he is saying that foreign ideas are being introduced into Judaism while commenting on the internet. excuse me but did they have the internet in the shtetl? therefore a legitimate critique. and to top it off he is very likely commenting on a sm as smartphone. with unfiltered internet!

  30. So all you supporters of Zionism support chillul shabbos, tattoo shops and gay parades. Shame on you. One million israeli jewish kids in public school being raised as goyim. Drafting yeshiva boys to distance them from Torah by mixing girls and toeiva soldiers around them. Satmar rebbe was right.

    • Yep, my shomer Torah u’mitzvos nephews finish davening, take off their tefilin, finish their learning sedarim, perform their daily tasks, and then go off to support “chillul shabbos, tattoo shops and gay parades”. It’s a very demanding schedule, but hey, some things are worth it.

I have a picture in my mind of this poster literally foaming at the mouth in rage as he typed his post.

    • and how many children dont have yeshivas in america! how many are thrown out with no other yeshiva? how many jews intermarry in america??
      cut the balony!

  31. You can’t lasher the atheistic tziyonim. It’s like koshering a pig. This Yeshiva instead of licking up to the anti Torah tziyonim should find this little boy and put him in a Yeshiva so his father will have nachas in the next world. Gay parade in Jerusalem last 16 years because the chareidi machers don’t care. It’s only the real Jews in meah shearim who care about shabbos and the holiness of Yerushalayim. The army is not for yeshiva boys.
