Talk about being in the right place at the right time.

Newly elected City Councilwoman Inna Vernikov was visiting Hatzalah headquarters in Borough Park yesterday when an emergency call came in from a caller who spoke only Russian. Vernikov was the only Russian speaker present, so she stepped in to assist the dispatcher.

The dispatcher was Hatzalah of Boro Park director Mutty Fleischer, who handed over the call to Vernikov, who calmly and with aplomb spoke to the caller about an 87-year-old patient in distress.

Watch as Vernikov handled the Hatzolah call:

    • Exactly my reaction as well.
I happen to have voted for her. As a Republican she will be”h serve us well. But punkt, Ezra was promoting her when suddenly, the first time in all of Hatzalah’s history, a caller calls in who only speaks Russian! Wow! What hashgacha pratis! This should be the hock all over the world! If you’ll notice, punkt Hatzalah director Yachiel Kalish was there. Out of all times. Unbelievable!!! This story just keeps on getting better. Can’t wait to read all about it in the next Pesach Krohn book!
Why is Inna smiling while allegedly talking to a patient in distress? What did she find funny? This was clearly all a set up. Protocol has it that a responsible dispatcher can not give over the “emergency” call to some stranger with no medical emergency know-how, with no training of how to talk to a distressed caller who just walked in off the street! Hatzalah can lose their license over such a reckless irresponsible move! Rabbi Kalish has a lot of explaining to do, if this story holds any water.

  1. Thank you for finally giving this woman the coverage she deserves. Looking forward to seeing Inna’s great work in city hall on behalf of our community.

  3. Well, Friedlander and Kalisch were escorting Councilmember Vernikov. That does not seem strange. What would have been strange is if she toured the place with no one accompanying her.
I was thrilled to vote for her; I wish her all success.
The question, I suppose, is what does Hatzolah do when other Russian-speaking people call up? Are Russian-speaking Jews properly served by Hatzolah in BP?
Hooray for Inna Vernikov. I can’t wait til she is elected to Congress.
