[Video below.] A policeman saved a dog whose leash got stuck in an elevator door. Sergeant Moshe Chajaj from Be’er Sheva recounted on Tuesday what happened a few days ago.

“I left for work around 5:30 from my home in Be’er Sheva. Along with me in the elevator was a lady with a dog. I got out of the elevator and noticed that the lady didn’t get out. I noticed the dog outside the elevator. The door had already closed and the dog leash started to be pulled upwards.

“I immediately ran in the dog’s direction. I tried to free it from the collar, but I couldn’t. In the end, I had to tear the leash off the dog in order to save its life.”

In an interview, Moshe added: “It was a matter of seconds, without too much thought. I just acted.”

When asked to describe the difficulty of the task, Moshe told reporters, “The biggest difficulty is that police officers are only given a short leash as to what we are permitted to do in these situations.”
